  • 1/2 Green peas
  • 1 cup cut potatoes
  • Salt according to taste
  • Ghee, cut coriander and grated coconut for garnishing

Procedure

For marination of prawns

  1. First remove the shells and devein the prawns.
  2. Clean them under running water.
  3. Put 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric & red chilli powder, little salt and 1 spoon of vatan.
  4. To make vatan take 1/2 cup corainder, 2-3 pods of garlic, 1 big green chilli.
  5. In fish items we should not put ginger in the vatan.
  6. Mix and keep the prawns aside.

Sheera Preparation

  1. First in a kadhai or open pan take the semolina and saute it on medium heat.
  2. Do not add oil to saute the semolina.
  3. Take care to see that the semolina does not burn.
  4. Once it becomes reddish in color, spread it in an open plate. (Semolina has a tendency to retain heat for long time, which may cause it to burn even after you have taken it away from the burner).
  5. In a non-stick vessel pour oil.
  6. After it becomes hot, put the crushed garlic pods and green chillies.
  7. Immediately put the onions cover and let it cook for sometime.
  8. Then add the turmeric, chilli powder, green peas and potatoes.
  9. Saute it, cover and let it cook.
  10. Once the potatoes are done add the marinated prawns.
  11. Add lemon juice and let the prawns cook.
  12. Add salt.
  13. Once the prawns are cooked, add the semolina. Keep mixing it very well.
  14. Add the hot water. Add additional water only if you feel the sheera is not mixing well.
  15. Excess water will lead the sheera to become sticky.
  16. Now let the sheera cook. Keep stirring.

Your sheera is now ready to be served!

While serving you can garnish it with cut coriander, ghee and grated coconut.

Tips

  • To save time, always have sauted semolina and vatan for marination ready at home.
  • It saves a lot of time instaed of doing it at last minute.
  • We added hot water to sheera to save time on the cooking. You can add cold water too but it will take longer time for cooking and also you may add excess water because of this.
  • If you use barik rava be sure to add only about 1 1/2 cups of water.
